Privacy Policy

Introduction

Still Stories is an app for parents and guardians of children aged 2 to 12. It writes, illustrates and narrates bedtime stories about your child.

IDATA YAZILIM LIMITED SIRKETI ("we", "our", "us") is a company based in Türkiye. Our registered office is at Kadriye Mah. 74. Sokak 14C, Serik/Antalya, Türkiye. We run Still Stories and are responsible for the personal data described here. In legal terms, we are the "data controller". The app is listed on the App Store under our founder's personal developer account, but we run the service.

This policy explains what we collect, why, who else receives it, how long we keep it and what you can do about it. If you have a question, email us at support@withstill.co.

The Short Version

• Still Stories is for parents and guardians. Everything we know about a child comes from you.
• To make a story, we send your child's details to AI companies. Anthropic writes it, fal.ai draws it, ElevenLabs narrates it and OpenAI checks it for safety. Each one is listed below with what it receives.
• Your child's name never goes to fal.ai, the company that draws the pictures.
• We do not sell personal data, the app has no ads, and we never use your child's data for advertising.
• You can delete a child's profile or your whole account in the app at any time.

Information We Collect

We collect the data below electronically, through the app and when you email us. Most of it you give us by typing, picking or speaking. Some is recorded automatically while the app and our server run. Some comes to us from Apple and RevenueCat.

Account information: Your email address and a name for your account. That is the name you gave us or Apple shared with us, or else the part of your email address before the @. We need an email address to make your account. If you sign up with email, we store your password only in a scrambled form that can't be turned back into the password. If you use Sign in with Apple, we receive an ID from Apple for your account and the email address Apple shares with us. That can be a Hide My Email address that forwards to your real one.

We also keep your app language, time zone and notification settings, and your subscription status. We keep a code that lets us send notifications to your phone. And we keep the date you confirmed you are 18 or older, and the date you agreed to send your child's details to our AI partners.

Child profile information: Your child's first name, age and story language, and any interests you pick. We need the name and age to make a story. Everything else is up to you, such as whether they're a girl or a boy, a birthday, a bedtime, a story length, a narrator voice or a picture style. Earlier versions of the app could also store fears.

Day notes and mood: The notes you write or speak about your child's day, and the mood you pick, so that night's story can reflect them. Day notes are sent to Anthropic to write the story, so please leave out health details and other sensitive information about your child.

Voice input: If you speak a day note instead of typing it, Apple's speech recognition turns your words into text. Apple may send the audio to its own servers to do this. The app does not save the audio, and only the text reaches us.

Voice Circle recordings: If you add a family voice, the app records that adult reading aloud. The Voice Circle section below explains what happens to the recording.

Stories and what the app remembers: We keep the stories, illustrations and narration made for your child, and their streaks and badges. We keep a character picture of your child that helps them look much the same from night to night. We also keep story memories. These are the characters, events and preferences that carry over from one night to the next.

Dashboard profile: After your child's third story, then every few stories, and whenever you refresh the Dashboard, Claude, Anthropic's AI, writes a profile of your child for the Dashboard. To do this it reads your child's profile details, your day notes, story memories and the titles and summaries of recent stories. The profile covers things like interests, personality, moods, favorite characters, the people and events that come up in your notes, and vocabulary growth. We show this profile only to you and never use it for advertising.

Share cards and postcards: We prepare a picture card for each story so it is quick to share, and a postcard when you tap share. Postcards show your child's first name. Cards only reach other people if you share them.

Purchases: If you subscribe, Apple handles the payment and we never see your card details. RevenueCat tells us which plan you have and when it renews or ends.

Usage events: The app records simple events on our own server, such as "a story was created" or "a story was played", together with the app version and the device platform. They are designed to contain no names and no notes. Once you have an account, these events are linked to your account and can say which child profile they are about. Before you have an account, the welcome and preview screens send a few events too, such as "the preview finished". Those carry no account, device or install ID, and we don't try to match them to you or to the account you make later. We use usage events to understand how the app is used.

Technical information: Our server sees your IP address when the app connects. We use it to protect the service, for example to limit how often the free preview can be run. When the app or our server runs into an error, a technical report goes to Sentry (see below).

This website: Our pages on withstill.co set no cookies and contain no analytics, advertising or tracking scripts. Cloudflare delivers the site and sees the IP address of each visitor, as any web host does.

How We Use Information

We use your information only to:

• Write, illustrate and narrate personalized bedtime stories for your child
• Remember characters and events from one night to the next
• Check stories and pictures for safety before your child sees them
• Show you the Dashboard profile of your child
• Run your account and subscription, and send account emails such as password resets
• Send the reminders and notifications you allow
• Find and fix errors, and prevent abuse
• Understand how the app is used, through the usage events described above
• See which of our App Store ads bring new families to the app

We do not sell personal data. The app shows no ads, we never use your or your child's data for advertising, and the app does not track you across other companies' apps or websites.

The Free Preview

Before you create an account, you can hear a short preview story about your child. You give your child's first name, their age, whether they're a girl or a boy, and one thing from their day. Some earlier versions of the app asked for interests too.

Then you choose. If you pick the sample story, the app asks our server for a ready-made story that fits girl or boy, the age group and the language. The name and the note you typed stay on your phone, and the app puts the name into the sample on your screen.

If you pick a live preview, the app first asks you to agree, as your child's parent or guardian, to send these details to our AI partners. Nothing you typed goes to them until you tap "I agree as the parent or guardian". Then:

• Anthropic writes the preview. It receives your child's age, whether they're a girl or a boy, and your note about their day, but not their name. Earlier versions of the app also sent interests. The story is written around a placeholder, and if your note mentions your child by name, that name is taken out before the note is sent.
• OpenAI checks the preview's text and pictures for harmful content. Because the story never contains your child's name, OpenAI never receives it.
• fal.ai draws the pictures from a short visual description of each scene, your child's age and whether they're a girl or a boy. It does not receive your child's name or the story text.
• ElevenLabs reads the preview aloud. Of our partners, it is the only one that receives your child's name for the preview, because we put the name back into the story just for the narration.

The name, age, girl or boy and note you typed are not stored on our server. The app keeps them on your phone, in its secure storage, so the sign-up screens can fill them in for you. It removes them once your child's profile is created or you sign out.

The preview's pictures and its narration, which says your child's name, are saved as files on our server that are not linked to you. In the current version of the app, a preview that passed every safety check also leaves a small record next to them. The record holds the checked story text, with a placeholder in place of your child's name, and where its pictures and narration are. It has no name, age, girl or boy or day note of its own. But the story is written around your note, and its wording follows your girl or boy answer. Only the app on your phone has the key that finds the record.

If you create an account within about a day, you can keep the preview as your child's first story. The app sends the key, and we put your child's name back into the text. We save the story, its pictures and its narration to your account as Episode 1, with the day note you typed for the preview. No AI partner is contacted to do this. From then on it is part of your account like any other story.

If you keep the preview, its original files and record are deleted as soon as it is saved to your account. If you don't keep it, our server deletes them automatically about a day after the preview was made. The server looks for old previews every hour, so none stays longer than about 25 hours.

Voice Circle (Family Voices)

Voice Circle is part of the Family plan. Up to three adult family members can record their voice so stories can be read aloud in it.

• Adults only. Voice Circle is only for adult voices. Never record a child.
• What is recorded: the adult reading a consent sentence and a short passage aloud for at least 30 seconds, plus the name you give the voice, such as "Grandma".
• Consent in their own voice: a voice can identify the person it belongs to, so the recording must start with the person reading the consent sentence themselves. OpenAI turns the recording into text so we can check that the sentence is there. Without it, no voice is created.
• Where it goes: the recording passes through our server to OpenAI, for the consent check, and to ElevenLabs, which creates the voice. We do not save the recording on our servers.
• How long it is kept: ElevenLabs keeps the recording as part of the family voice until the voice is removed. While you're on the Family plan, you can remove a voice yourself in Voice Circle. At any time, you can delete your account, or email us and we will remove the voice. Whichever you choose, we ask ElevenLabs to delete the voice. Under its standard business terms, OpenAI can keep the recording for up to 30 days to watch for abuse, and then deletes it.
• If ElevenLabs can't be reached: when you remove a voice or delete your account, the removal or deletion still goes ahead on our side. If ElevenLabs can't be reached at that moment, the voice may stay with ElevenLabs, and we don't yet try again automatically. If you want us to make sure a voice is gone, email us.
• Deleting a child's profile does not remove family voices, because they belong to the whole family.
• Stories that were already narrated in a family voice keep their audio after the voice is removed.

Who Receives Your Data

We use the following companies to run Still Stories. Here is what each one receives.

• Anthropic (Claude) writes the stories, the Dashboard profile and, once you have allowed notifications, a short morning note about last night's story. Older versions of the app also ask it for ideas of what to tell about the day. It receives your child's first name, age, interests and other profile details, your day notes and mood, story memories and summaries of earlier stories. In a sibling story it also receives the sibling's first name. When OpenAI's safety check can't be reached, Anthropic runs a backup safety check on the story, with the children's names replaced by stand-ins. If neither check can run, the story is not delivered and your story credit is returned. Anthropic's business terms say it does not train its models on what business customers like us send it.
• OpenAI checks each story's text and the descriptions of its pictures for harmful content. Before the text is sent, the names of the children in your family are replaced by stand-ins such as "Hero". It also checks the finished pictures. For Voice Circle it turns the recording into text to confirm the consent sentence. Under its standard business terms, OpenAI can keep this data for up to 30 days to watch for abuse. Those terms also say it does not train its models on what business customers send it unless the customer opts in.
• fal.ai draws the illustrations. It never receives your child's name. Before or with the first story, it draws a character picture of your child from their age, and whether they're a girl or a boy if you told us. For each story it receives the same details and a description of each scene. The description includes a short part of the story text, with the children's names replaced by stand-ins. It also receives the character picture, which helps your child look much the same from night to night. In a sibling story it also receives the sibling's age, and girl or boy if you told us. It also makes a sharper copy of finished pictures for full-screen viewing. We save our own copy of the pictures. fal.ai also keeps the pictures it makes at its own web addresses, for as long as its own rules allow. We have not yet received written terms from fal.ai about training, so please assume it could use the picture descriptions we send to improve its models.
• ElevenLabs narrates the stories, so it receives the full story text, which includes your child's name. For Voice Circle it receives the recording, the name you give the voice and your account ID, and keeps them as described above. Under ElevenLabs' standard settings, the text and audio of each narration can also be kept in our ElevenLabs account history. ElevenLabs' privacy policy allows it to use customer data to train its models unless the customer opts out. We have not yet confirmed that opt-out, so please assume ElevenLabs could use the story text and recordings we send to improve its models.
• Akamai (Linode) hosts our server, our database and the story files in Frankfurt, Germany.
• Sentry receives technical reports when something goes wrong in the app or on our server, and a small sample of speed measurements. A report says what failed and where. It includes details such as the device model, the iOS and app version, and which screen or web address was involved. Before our server sends a report, it removes what was sent to us in that request, such as a child's name or a day note, along with sign-in details. An error message can still quote part of what was being saved, such as a line from a story. We don't add your name or email address to these reports. A report can include the random ID of your account or of a child profile. Reports from the app can carry a random ID that Sentry makes for each install, and they are stored in Sentry's EU region in Germany.
• RevenueCat manages subscriptions. It receives your account's random ID, never your name or email address, and your Still Stories purchases from the App Store. RevenueCat's code in the app also sends a device ID that Apple gives only to apps from the same developer. This is not the advertising ID. On iPhone, after you sign in, the app also gives RevenueCat a token from Apple. RevenueCat uses it to ask Apple whether the app was installed from one of our ads on the App Store, and if so, which ad campaign. This does not use your device's advertising identifier and does not track you across other companies' apps.
• Expo delivers push notifications through Apple. It receives the code that lets us send notifications to your phone, and each notification our server sends. The text shown on your lock screen is generic and never includes your child's name. Some notifications also carry details the app uses after you tap them, such as which story to open. The morning note also carries a short line about last night's story, which can include your child's name. Bedtime and streak reminders are set up on your phone and don't go through Expo.
• Resend sends account emails, such as password resets. It receives your email address and the email itself.
• Cloudflare delivers this website. It sees the IP address of each visitor, as any web host does.
• Apple provides Sign in with Apple, App Store payments, the ad token described above, speech recognition for spoken day notes and the delivery of notifications, under Apple's own privacy policy.

How these companies treat your data: Apart from what the law requires, we share your data only with the companies named on this page, and only for the uses this page describes. Each of them handles the data under its own terms and privacy policy. Where we know that a company's own rules let it do more with the data than we ask, such as keep copies for a while or use the data to improve its AI models, we say so on this page.

AI Model Training

Anthropic's business terms say it does not train its models on what business customers like us send it. OpenAI's business terms say it does not train its models on what business customers send it unless the customer opts in.

ElevenLabs' privacy policy allows it to use customer data to train its models unless the customer opts out. We have not yet confirmed that opt-out, and we have not yet received written terms about training from fal.ai. Until we update this section, please assume these two companies could use what we send them to improve their models. That means story text and recordings sent to ElevenLabs, and picture descriptions sent to fal.ai.

Where Your Data Is Stored

Our server and database are in Frankfurt, Germany. Akamai, which runs that server, is a US company. Anthropic, OpenAI, fal.ai, ElevenLabs, Sentry, RevenueCat, Expo, Resend, Cloudflare and Apple are also based in the United States. We are based in Türkiye and run the service from there.

So your data is handled in several countries, including:

• Germany
• Türkiye
• the United States

It goes to these countries so that we and the companies listed above can do the work this page describes, such as writing, drawing, narrating and checking your child's stories.

Children's Privacy

Still Stories is made for parents and guardians of children aged 2 to 12, not for children to use on their own. You must be 18 or older to create an account, and the app asks you to confirm it. Everything we know about a child comes from their parent or guardian, and we do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children.

• Before your child's details go to our AI partners, the app asks you to agree as your child's parent or guardian. You agree once for your account, and we record when. The free preview asks again on its own screen, and that answer covers only that one preview.
• We never use children's data for advertising, and the app has no ads
• Your child's details go only to the companies listed above, to make and check their stories, the Dashboard profile and morning notes
• Voice Circle is only for adult voices, and the adult being recorded must say the consent sentence in their own voice
• If you think a child has given us personal information directly, email us and we will delete it

AI-Generated Content

Every story, illustration and narration in Still Stories is made by AI, and the app tells you so. When we save a story's pictures and narration, we add a hidden label inside the files that says they were made by AI. Tools that read a file's details can see it. Postcards also carry a visible "Made with Still Stories" mark, written in the family's language.

Decisions Made by Computer

We don't let a computer alone make decisions about you or your child that have a legal effect or affect you in a similarly serious way. The Dashboard profile is shown only to you. The safety checks only decide whether a story or a picture is shown.

Data Storage and Security

The app talks to our server over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Passwords are stored only in scrambled form. The code that keeps you signed in is kept in your phone's secure storage, the iOS Keychain. Pictures, narration and postcards are served from web addresses that contain a long random code, and that code is what keeps them private. Anyone who has one of those exact addresses can open that file. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach puts your data at risk, we will tell you as the law requires.

Data Retention and Deletion

• While your account exists, we keep your account, child profiles, stories, pictures, narration, story memories and Dashboard profiles, so your library and your child's story world keep working. We do not yet delete inactive accounts automatically.
• Deleting a child's profile in Settings removes that child's stories, pictures, narration, postcards, day notes, memories and Dashboard profile from our database and our server right away. Family voices stay, because they belong to the whole family.
• Removing a family voice in Voice Circle asks ElevenLabs to delete it right away. You can do this while you're on the Family plan. At any time, you can also email us and we will remove a voice for you.
• Deleting your account with Delete Account in Settings removes your account, every child profile and all of their content and files right away. It also asks ElevenLabs to delete every family voice. The Voice Circle section above explains what happens if ElevenLabs can't be reached.
• Sign in with Apple: deleting your account does not disconnect Still Stories from your Apple Account. You can remove Still Stories yourself from the apps that use Sign in with Apple, in your Apple Account settings on your iPhone (open Settings and tap your name).
• What stays after deletion:
  • Usage events, with the link to your account removed. They can still carry the random ID of a deleted child profile.
  • The records Apple and RevenueCat keep of App Store purchases.
  • Copies our providers made while doing their job. OpenAI can keep data for up to 30 days. Narration text, which includes your child's name, can stay in our ElevenLabs account history. Pictures can stay at fal.ai. Deleting your account does not clear these copies.
  • Error reports in Sentry, which expire on Sentry's schedule.
  • Our server's technical logs. They can include your IP address, your account ID and, from older versions of the app, your child's first name.
• The free preview and Voice Circle recordings are covered in their own sections above.

Why We Can Use Your Data

• To provide the service you asked for: your account, your stories, your subscription and account emails.
• Your consent: sending your child's details to our AI partners. You give it in the app before the first story, and we record when. For the free preview you give it on the preview screen, and it covers only that one preview. Voice Circle also needs the recorded adult's own spoken consent.
• Our legitimate interests, meaning things we reasonably need to do to run the service: keeping it secure, fixing errors, understanding how the app is used through usage events and measuring our App Store ads.
• The law: when the law requires it, for example when a court or another authority asks, we may have to keep data or share it with them.

Your Rights

Wherever you live, you can use the rights in the KVKK, Türkiye's data protection law. If you live in the EU or UK, the GDPR gives you rights too. Under these laws you can:

• Ask whether we hold data about you, and see it
• Find out why we use it, and whether we use it only for that
• Find out which companies received it
• Correct data that is wrong or incomplete
• Delete your data
• Ask us to tell the companies that received your data when we correct or delete it
• Get a copy of your data
• Object to, or limit, how we use it
• Object to a result that goes against you and comes only from automated analysis
• Ask for compensation if you are harmed because your data was used unlawfully
• Withdraw your consent at any time

As a parent or guardian, you can use these rights for your child's data too. You can delete a child's profile or your whole account in Settings. Stories cannot be made without the AI partners. So withdrawing your consent to sending your child's details to them means deleting the child's profile or your account. For anything else, email us. If you can, write from the email address on your account, so we can tell it's you. We answer within 30 days.

You can also complain to a data protection authority. In Türkiye, you first need to contact us. After that, you can complain to the Personal Data Protection Board (Kişisel Verileri Koruma Kurulu). Elsewhere, you can contact the authority where you live.

Changes to This Policy

When we change this policy, we update the date at the top of this page. If a change is important, we will also tell you in the app or by email.
